Background
Mr. Alumit started his career in intellectual
property in 1998 as an Examining Attorney for
the United States Patent and Trademark Office
(USPTO). While pursuing his Master of Laws (LL.M)
degree in International and Comparative Law
at Georgetown University Law Center, Mr. Alumit
found employment at the USPTO. After leaving
the USPTO, Mr. Alumit worked for a nationwide
law firm in Silicon Valley where he managed
the trademark portfolios of various multinational
companies.
Mr. Alumit has been rated the
third highest trademark filer at the USPTO according
to the Trademark Insider magazine. He prosecutes
trademark applications at the USPTO, and has
successfully represented clients before the
Trademark Trial and Appeal Board in ex parte
appeals, oppositions, and cancellations. He
has successfully represented clients in ICANN
domain name dispute proceedings before the World
Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He
also has experience practicing in the Central
District of California in trademark and copyright
infringement matters.

Represented a domain name holder in federal
litigation brought by a national bank over
a domain dispute resulting in a large monetary
settlement in favor of our client.
Forced the transfer of a domain name (costamartravel.com)
registered in bad faith through ICANN proceedings
conducted via the World Intellectual Property
Organization.
Successfully appealed a refusal by an Examining
Attorney before the Trademark Trial and Appeal
Board for the trademark BBQ PIT STOP.
Successfully obtained several default judgments
before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board
resulting in cancellation of abandoned trademark
registrations.
Settled numerous oppositions and cancellations
before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
Background
Mr. Cerrati received his Bachelor of
Arts at the University of Vermont, and graduated
cum laude in the top 10% of his class at Southwestern
University School of Law in Los Angeles. During
law school, he served as a Notes and Comments
Editor of the Southwestern Journal of Law and
Trade in the Americas and published two law
review articles. His most recent article analyzing
the placement and role of music in video games
has been judged one of the top law review articles
of 2006 in the fields of entertainment and communications,
and will be published in the 2007 Entertainment,
Publishing and the Arts Handbook.
Prior to joining Patel & Alumit,
Mr. Cerrati held positions at entertainment
companies and large law firms while pursuing
his interests in music, entertainment and intellectual
property law. Mr. Cerrati has represented clients
in many aspects of the entertainment industry
and negotiated numerous contracts on their behalf,
including composer, digital download, manager,
producer, web hosting and sponsorship agreements.
Mr. Cerrati currently specializes
in copyright, trademark and entertainment law.
His practice at Patel & Alumit involves
managing litigation of federal and state cases,
and representing clients before the Trademark
Trial and Appeal Board. He also advises clients
on the selection, protection and proper use
of trademarks and copyrights, as well as negotiates
and drafts trademark licenses, consent, coexistence

Background
Mr. Tarver concentrates his practice on patent
prosecution before the US Patent and Trademark
office as a licensed patent attorney. With
expertise in a diverse range of technologies,
and a background in composition, he brings
a broad range of technical experience particularly
suited to the art of drafting and prosecuting
patent applications. Since joining the firm
in 2004, Mr. Tarver has filed over 200 patent
applications; drafting utility applications
in the fields of medical devices, mechanical
and electrical devices, and software, including
business processes; including a large number
of industrial design applications.
Prior to joining Patel
& Alumit, P.C., Mr. Tarver worked in complex
commercial and personal litigation, and brings
his experience in this area to Patel &
Alumit’s intellectual property litigation
practice where he assists with all areas of
IP litigation. In addition to his Juris Doctorate
from Southwestern University School of Law,
Mr. Tarver also holds a Bachelor of Science
in Biology with an emphasis on biotechnology
and a minor in chemistry, as well as a Bachelor
of Arts degree in English composition. He
is an active member of the Intellectual Property
section of the American Bar Association, American
Intellectual Property Law Association, Los
Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association,
and the International Trademark Association.
